Rifftrax Live Nationwide August 20th at a Theater Near Most of You

    Photograph by Jeremy Beckham

The Hell you say?  Live?  Nationwide?  How can that be?  The details are here and here, but to sum up, we'll be performing onstage live from the Belcourt Theater in wonderful Nashville.  The show will be simulcast to more than 433 theaters coast to coast.  There's a fair chance that one of these theaters is near you.

It's going to be fun.  We're going to lambaste Ed Wood's astonishing Plan Nine from Outer Space, a movie that has become the 1812 Overture of movie badness.  We're also going to premiere an all-new riff of a delightful short film to whet your appetite.  Internet superstar Veronica Belmont will be Master of Ceremonies, and our special musical guest is 21-Century Troubadour Jonathan Coulton.  There will actually be prizes.

We've been wanting to do this kind of thing for a long time, to bring our goofy brand of funny to as many places as we could without killing ourselves or limiting ourselves to big metropolitan areas.  We're hoping you'll come, the ticket prices are pretty cheap, the riff is damn funny, and seeing it in a crowd, live, with a live crowd and some good friends, may well make you giddy.

Thanks to Jeremy Beckham for the photo above.  Very classy, Jeremy.

Awesome!! Although knowing this place, I probably still won't have a theater showing it within a hundred miles of here.

I hope you read this Kevin, (as if I am on a first name basis with you although it would be amazing to actually have another witty friend), I have found much of what you and the others (Mike Nelson, etc) have done post MST3K to be quite great, but I am extremely amazed that you can do it live in all those theatres. I can't say that any of the theatres around here will be showing it (especially since this area is quite lame in the cinema category) I wish I could see it. Will there be a future DVD planned for us who won't get to see it?? Another thing, are you giong to improvise the quips, or are you guys going off a script with improv as needed? Also I wanted to thank you for all the wonderful laughs and I can honestly say I love MST3K, not only as a nostalgic masterpiece, but as inspiration for much of the humor that I have aquired throughout the years in my own writing, etc :).

    Kevin,
While I fail to grasp what manner of wizardry or witchcraft makes it possible for you and Mike and Bill to be in multiple locations at the same time I do completely comprehend your comparison of the biggest misfire in the Ed Wood canon to Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture (I leave it to others to assemble a quip about The Nutcracker and how some poor unfortunate Tor his Johnson). Hopefully I will be able to locate a theater where I can witness an incarnation of The Rifftrax magic lantern show on August 20th. In a synchronicity near me that is.

    Greetings Kevin:

I saw the show at a theatre here in Peoria, AZ. GREAT show. A lot of memories and great family entertainment. It's hard to find things you can do as a family when it comes to movies, unless you want to sit through Shrek the Third for the umpteenth time. The audience laughed throughout the whole show and I have to say it was actually better watching it in a theatre than watching a "Film Crew" DVD at home. Having a crowd of like-minded people laughing at the same things made a world of difference.

I went with my son and his friends. They had watched the TV show as kids (they are in college now) and I was happy to see they thouroughly enjoyed the show. They didn't get some of the jokes that were 'dated', but I was there to translate.

Again, thanks to you guys for providing great entertainment at a bargain price. I would much rather spend $12 on your performance than waste $8 on Transformers 2 (BTW, great job working that movie into the riffing). Keep up the good work!
